unit 2 section 4: Cell cycle

HideShow resource information
What are the 4 sections of the cell cycle?
Mitosis, Gap phase 1, synthesis and Gap phase 2
1 of 14
what are the two main periods of the cell cycle?
Mitosis and interphase(G1,S and G2)
2 of 14
What happens during Gap Phase 1?
Cell grows and new organelles are made
3 of 14
What happens during synthesis?
Cell replicates its DNA and gets reading to divide
4 of 14
what happens during Gap Phase 2?
Cell keeps growing and proteins needed for cell division are made
5 of 14
What are the two main enzymes needed for DNA replication?
DNA helicase and DNA polymerase
6 of 14
What does DNA Helicase do?
Splits up or unzips the two strands of a dna molecule
7 of 14
Why is DNA replication semi-conservative?
It contains half of the original strand in the new strand
8 of 14
What are the 5 stages of mitosis?
Interphase, metaphase, prophase, anaphase and telophase
9 of 14
What happens during interphase?
Cell prepares to divide, Dna unravels, organelles replicate
10 of 14
What happens during Prophase?
Chromosomes condense, contrioles move to opposite sides, spindles form, nuclear envelope breaks down
11 of 14
What happens during metaphase?
chromosomes line up iin the middle of the cell, spindle fibres attach to centriomere
12 of 14
What happens during anaphase?
Chromatids divide and move to opposite sides of the cell
13 of 14
What happens during telophase?
Chromatids uncoil and become chromosomes, nuclear envelope develops around both groups of chromosome, cytoplasm divides two form two daughter cells.
