How do large organisms enable efficient gas exchange?
Through specialised exchange organs and flat shape/surface.
1 of 6
Countercurrent flow?
Water flows over in the opposite direction to blood. Water freshly loaded with oxygen meets blood almost completely saturated with oxygen. The water with little oxygen meets blood with little or no oxygen so a constant diffusion gradient is maintain
2 of 6
What is taxonomy?
The biological principle of classification of species.
3 of 6
A heirachy?
Groups within groups with no overlap between groups.
4 of 6
What property of DNA allows it to be hybridised?
When heated the double strand separates, and when cooled the complementary bases recombine to form the original strand. With enough time all the DNA strands in a mixture will pair up .
5 of 6
Semi-conservative replication?
DNA helicase breaks the hydrogen bonds and the helix unzips. Free floating nucleotides join to the exposed bases which as templates. Joined together by DNA polymerase. Each new molecule has one new and parent strand.
