Unit 1 Section 4 Isomers

?
Structural Isomer
A molecule with the same molecular formula as another molecule but with the atoms connected in a different way.
1 of 5
Chain Isomer
A molecule that contains the same atoms as another molecule but has a different arrangement of the carbon skeleton.
2 of 5
Positional Isomer
A molecule with the same molecular formula as another molecule but with the functional group in a different position.
3 of 5
Functional Isomer
A molecule with the same molecular formula as another molecule, but with the atoms arranged into different functional groups.
4 of 5
Identifying Isomers
Atoms can rotate about their single C-C bonds. So count from right to left the number of carbons in one chain.
