0-2 years
Solo play; infant engrosed in own play, play alone with toys such as rattles, shakers and balls. May be aware that other infants are present but dont attempt to play with them.

Parallel play; children play next to each other but are involved in their own play. Children are aware of other children. They may copy each other but they do not interact.

Co-operative play; Children share, talk and play together. Children share ideas and resources in the same activity. They iteract and gree roles to develop their play towards a shared goal.

Play is important for children to develop their vocabulary. Children need language to be able to commuicate and negotiate during co-operative play.

Heuristic play- infants use all of theor senses to find out about the world around them. Children in pre-operational stage (2-7) learn best through exploratory play. Natural materials enchourage curiosity and exploratry play.
