- Not expected (e.g. accident or serious illness). - Happen with little or no warning so cant be prepared for.

1. list of 43 life events individuals may experience. 2. A score (unit) was applied to each life event, depending on ho much stress it was likely to cause. 3. Patients asked to indicate which life events from list theyd experienced. 4. score totaled.
