Biological factors during pregnancy
Poor diet, drug use, alcohol, smoking. --> Low birth weight, premature birth, long-term health problems, learning disabilities, developmental delays, congenital defects

Congenital defects definition
Defects in the developing foetus.

Maternal infections
Infections such as rubella and cytomegalovirus (CMV) can be passed to baby in womb and can cause; health problems, still birth, congenital defects, miscarriage.

Foetal alcohol syndrome
Caused by exposure to alcohol in the womb. symptoms; Small head circumference, meurological problems, abnormal growth, developmental delay, facial abnormalities

Congenital anomalies
Defects or abnormalities in the developing foetus such as congenital heart disease or club foot. May be defected from birthm during birth or later in life.

Factors contributing to congenital anomolies
Genetic (such as downs syndrome), Nutritional (such as deficiency in folate, which increases risk of neural ube defect (spina bifida)) Infecions (such as rubella--> deafness and healthproblems) Environmental (e.g. maternal exposure to chemicals)
