What is a referendum?
A vote on a single issue, put to a public ballot by the government of the day

What is an initiative?
A type of referendum in which the citizens choose the question to be voted on themselves

What is political culture?
The ideas, beliefs and attitudes that shape political behaviour within a given area. It describes the way in which citizens collectively view the political system and their status and role within it

What is a franchise?
The right to vote

What is legitimacy?
The legal right or authority to exercise power. A government claims legitimacy as a result of the mandate it secures at a general election

What is a mandate?
The right of the governing party to pursue the policies it sets out in its general election manifesto

Indifferences towards political institutions and their associated processes
