Job production is where you make one item at once. An example is a dress made for the customer's measurements.

This is where you make batches of products. For example a baker makes a batch of cakes.

Advantages- •Good quality because time is spent making the item. This makes customers want the item. •The products are made to the customers requirements. •High job satisfaction. Disadvantages- •Slow. •Can only do one at once.

Advantages- •Quicker •Can make a number of items at once •Cheaper per unit. Disadvantages- •Not made to the customers individual requirements •Have to the predict the number of items needed.

Advantages- •Much quicker •Cheaper per unit •Can produce a lot of items. Disadvantages- •Expensive machinery

7. What does it mean by operating efficiently?
Operating efficiently means making quality items in the least amount of time for the least amount of money.

They are not creating their products in the most efficient manner.

9. What does a business need to make sure their production line is efficient?
If the business isn't running efficiently they're not producing the items for the lowest price. This will increase the costs.

•Move to batch production •Find a cheaper supplier •Employ part time staff instead of full time staff.

By the cost per unit. If a business doesn’t use too many resources to produce its products then its cost per unit should be low.

•Make sure that there is no time wasted on the production line. •Make sure there is no waste as this costs money. •Make sure all staff are used to the best of their ability.

If a business uses batch or flow production they are making more than one product at a time. Machinery allows this to happen. Making in bulk reduces the cost per unit.

•Delivering on time •Reliable products •Good after sales service •Polite to customers •Offer services such as bag packing or delivery.

16. How are customers protected by law when buying items?
Consumers are protected by consumer protection legislation. This means that customers have the right to have products which are fit for purpose e.g. a mug must not break with boiling water in it.

17. How have advances in ICT allowed customer services to develop?
•Customers can order on the internet (ecommerce) which is more convenient for some. •Customers can contact a business using their website. •Easy to contact a business regardless of location (international).
