White workers saw African Americans and immigrants as a threat as they were willing to work for less. White workers didn't allow African American to join unions, therefore the likes of Philip Randolph created their own.

During the later period (1955-75) how did the arrival of immigrants weaken the labour movement?
The arrival of immigrants from Asia (after the Vietnam war) were willing to work for lower wages and for firms who ran non-union enterprises.

How did gender divisions weaken the labour movement?
Women were paid less than men, therefore men saw them as threat to their jobs. Women were more concerned about equal pay than anything else. Women in high-tech industries were reluctant to join unions as they already had the benefit of pensions etc.
