Ultrastructure of Cells - (Module 2.1.1)

hey, hey, hey...

I hope these flashcards are good for last minute revision or a refresher.  PLEASE REMEMBER THESE ARE AN ASSORTMENT AND IS NOT ALL INFORMATION REQUIRED.

Most important thing to remember my lovelies is do NOT stress, you'll be fine. I truly hope that you get the grade that you want.

Happy revising and don't give up. i know it's tempting lol believe me.

If the number of flashcards anywhere is too much for you then do them in small chunks, a few every day.

anddd...if you're feeling demotivated maybe it's a sign you need a break x

Don't overdo it. (ESPECIALLY THE NIGHT/MORNING BEFORE)

Wishing you all the luck in the world! :) xoxo

Which type of cell are PLASMIDS present in?
Prokaryotic cells
1 of 15
What is the role of the GOLGI APPARATUS?
The golgi apparatus is responsible for protein modification before packaging the proteins into transport vesicles
2 of 15
Please describe the difference between the SER and the RER.
Smooth: lipid and carbohydrate synthesis // ROUGH: protein synthesis
3 of 15
Which membrane bound organelle is ATP released in?
Mitochondria - please note, when talking about ATP, to say that ATP is released, not produced. Energy can only be transferred **
4 of 15
How do prokaryotic cells divide?
Binary Fission.
5 of 15
Flagella are motor controlled that rotate to propel a cell forward, what is an example of a cell in the human body with a flagellum?
Sperm Cells
6 of 15
What is the role of cytoplasm?
Cytoplasm suspends the cellular organelles as it is a jelly like substance along side the cytoskeleton which also anchors organelles in place.
7 of 15
Please state the difference between cytosol and cytoplasm
cytosol refers to the jelly like substance as well as all of the organelles suspended within it whereas cytoplasm is referring to just the liquid. READ QUESTIONS CAREFULLY TO SEE WHICH ONE ITS TALKING ABOUT
8 of 15
Why are centrioles important?
Even though they don't seem important compared to organelles like the golgi, they are actually very important when it comes to cell division, DONT UNDERESTIMATE THEIR IMPORTANCE AND FORGET THEM IN THE EXAM!!
9 of 15
What are the three components of the cytoskeleton, their roles and contents?
Microtubules(made of tubulin)- form tubes for transport, Microfilaments(made of actin)-control cell movement and Intermediate fibres (made of fibres) which provide support and strength
10 of 15
What is the cell wall formed from in fungi, plants and bacteria?
Fungi = chitin // bacteria = muerin or peptidogylcan // plants = cellulose
11 of 15
Why is the RER given its' name?
The ribosomes attached to the surface give the endopplasmic reticulum and rough looking appearance and thus is named rough
12 of 15
What is the fluid inside a chloroplast called?
stroma
13 of 15
What do lysosomes contain?
digestive, hydrolytic enzymes to clean the cell of any waste products.

GOOD LUCK MY LOVELIES!!
keep that chin up, don't get down if you can't remember all of the information just yet, you will soon xoxoxox
