Document Management Systems
A DMS is an ICT system which is used by organisations to keep track of electronically stored documents.

Paper documents are often still used in many organisations, so in document management systems they will need to be digitised by scanning them in.
Document management systems are used in lots of organisations where there is less control over the way the data arrives for entry into an ICT system.

An example where DMS is used is an Insurance company who will scan in documentation such as peoples no claims certificate, details of any previous/new claims that can be used to settle any car insurance claims.
Examples of paper documents that can be scanned in to a DMS include: Witness Statements, Photographs/ID, Quotes from repairs, documentation from a solicitor etc
