Types of Plate boundaries

Simple notes about plate margins.

?
Convergent (Mostly known as Destructive plate margin)
This occurs when two plate boundaries move towards one another. (E.g. The Eurasian plate and the Philippine plate forming active volcanoes along these boundaries such as the Mt. Pinatubo and Mt. Mayon.)
1 of 8
Divergent (Mostly known as Constructive plate margin)
This occurs when two plate margins moves away from each other. (E.g. North American and Eurasian plate resulting to the volcanoes in Iceland.
2 of 8
Transform (Mostly known as Conservative plate margin)
This occurs when the plate margins move along past each other. (E.g. the San Andreas fault in California. Pacific plate and N. American plate both moving northwards in different rates)
3 of 8
1ST evidence of plate movements?
There has been a similar fossil fuels and rock types on the opposite sides of the ocean. Such as the same alligator fossil could be both found on west Africa and East S. America.
4 of 8
Pangea
There has been a theory made that the lands of the earth was once together and as a whole it's called Pangea. Now the reason for this break up is due to the plate movements which leads us to what the countries looks like right now.

2ND evidence of plate movements?
OCEAN FLOOR CONFIGURATION - there are trenches or rifts that can be seen on the ocean floors.
6 of 8
3RD evidence of plate movements?
SEA FLOOR GEOLOGY AGE VARIATION - there are evidence that the sea floor gets younger as we approach the sea floor ridges.
7 of 8
4TH evidence of the plate movements?
THE MAGNETIC RECORD OF THE OCEAN FLOOR - Shows that pattern of reversal as they find the mirror image of the opposing side of the ocean ridges.
