Massed Practice
almost continuos with very short or no rest. better when individual is: motivated, older, more experienced, fitter. Better when the task is: discrete, simple, e.g. shooting baskets.

Distributed Practice
practice with rest periods between each attempt/block. Rests may invlove tasks. Better when task is: begginer, less experienced, limited preparation, less motivated. Better when task is: continuos, complex, dangerous.

Variable Practice
practice needs to be varied to ensure performances gain variety of experience. Open skills- many different situations whcih they can draw upon. Closed skills- practice copnditions resemble true life so can experinece all relevant stimul that will occ

Mental Practice
refered to as imagery. Cognitive process, preformance pictured in mind. Pre-event strategy. Done well= good as physical practice. Help solve problem.

Skill is practiced without splitting it up into subroutines

Skill is split into subroutines and each of these are practised on their own

The skill is split into subrotines and each subroutine is practiced and chained onto the next one

What are the advantages of Whole Practice?
Good for discrete skills, no time wasting, feeling of whole skill, trasnfer from practice to real situation is good.

What are the disadvantages of Whole Practice?
Not good for complex or dangerous skills, no good for beginners

What are the advantges of Part Practice?
seial tasks can be broken up, less demand, good for simple skills, motivation encoruages progress, used for dangerous skills, foucs of specific points.

May be hard to put back together, not good for highly organised skills, awerness of end product is less, loss of kinasthesis

god for open skills, allows performers to adapt for different situations

Good for closed skills, builds up skill to habit, smae each time
