Basaltic or Basic Lava
Low viscosity, hot (1200), runny, lower silica content, takes longer to cool and solidify so flows further as rivers of molten rock, produces extensive but gently sloping landforms, eruptions are frequent and gentle, lava and steam ejected.

Andesitic or Acid Lava
Viscous, less hot (800), flows slowly and shorter distances, higher silica content, soon cools and solidifies, steep sided more localised features, eruptions are less frequent but violent as a build up of gases.

Andesitic or Acid Lava
Ash, rocks, gases, steam and lava ejected, found at destructive margins where oceanic crust is destroyed, melts and rises.

Rhyolitic Lava
Destructive/collision margins, high silica, high viscosity, less than 750.
