how do rockets move through space?
the motor produces a continuous, controlled explosion that forces large amounts of fast-moving gases out the back of the rocket. the spacecraft then gains an equal momentum in the opposite direction to that off the moving exhaust gases
1 of 8
newtons third law
for every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction
2 of 8
pivot
fixed point that an object rotates around
3 of 8
word equation for moment of a force
moment of a force = force x perpendicular distance from pivot
4 of 8
symbol equation for momentum of a force
moment = f x d
5 of 8
what is moment of a force measured in?
Nm
6 of 8
when will an object be in balance?
sum of anticlockwise moments = sum of clockwise moments
7 of 8
forces on a beam
when an object moves to a particular side of the beam, the upwards forces nearest to it will increase, and the upwards forces further away will decrease because the upward and downward forces must be equal.
