What is Turgor pressure?
When the contents of the cell push against the cell wall
1 of 6
Describe Turgid
When the cell draws in lots of water through osmosis creating a high pressure of water in the cell so the cell becomes swollen
2 of 6
Describe Flaccid
When there is less water in the cell so it loses its turgor pressure and starts to wilt
3 of 6
Describe plasmolysed
When the level of water is really low and the cell membrane pulls away from the cell wall
4 of 6
Definition of osmosis
The net movement of particles through a partially permeable membrane from an area of higher concentration to an area of lower concentration
5 of 6
Why can't large molecules, like starch, pass through the partially permeable membrane?
They are too large to fit through the holes
