claimed corruption in church, in reality for wealth and Cromwell opposed concept, smaller monastries first as weak then larger ones, Cromwells propoganda good so people didnt notice. king used goods and property for short term debt

opposed expropriation of church wealth by crown, 30,000 rebels. wanted monastries restored &cranmer cromwell dismissed. unable to raise forces so negotiated till they dispersed then 1537 went back on promises excuted leaders and persecuted rebels
