Define diffusion
Diffusion is the movement of cells from a high concentration to a low concentration.
1 of 8
Define osmosis
Osmosis is the diffusion of water from a dilute solution to a more concentrated solution through a partially permeable membrane.
2 of 8
Define active transport
Active transport is when cells use energy to move up the concentration gradient.
3 of 8
Give an example of active transport use in plants. What organelle is needed for this process?
Root hair cells use active transport in plants to absorb minerals from soil.
4 of 8
What conditions can speed up diffusion rate?
Increased temperature, Increased density of substance and smaller medium.
5 of 8
Explain why alveoli are effective exchange surfaces.
Alveoli are effective due to their large total surface area.
6 of 8
Why does a good blood supply speed up exchange?
An efficient blood supply can transport molecules to and from the exchange surface quickly.
7 of 8
Where does gas exchange and transpiration happen on a leaf?
It normally happens in the stomata, through inter cellular holes on the underside of the leaf.
