What were some of the key "Fourteen Points" made by Woodrow Wilson?
1) No secret treaties, 4) Reduction of armaments, 10) self determination, people of diff nations should be able to rule themselves eg:SAAR,(coal) on German border. Made colonialism unacceptable. 14) League of Nations to settle international disputes

How harshly did Wilson believe Germany should be punished?
idealist. Thought they should be punished (had a presbyterian mindset) but not too harshly (would cause resentment and revengefulness, and wanted G to defend itself from communism spreading from Russia).

Not really - LLoyd-George forced him to agree to War Guilt Cause (article 231).

What did Clemenceau (made PM of France in 1917) want from the TOV?
1) Alsace - Lorraine to be returned to France. 2) Germany to pay for suffering French had endured in money and land (75,000 + homes and 23,000 factories destroyed). 3) Germany to lose land on border with France - French security from future attacks

What did Lloyd- George (PM of Britain) want from the TOV?
1) Germany to be punished but not too harshly 2) To protect British naval interests. Disliked WW's idea of access to countries from seas. 3) red.G navy(but didn't want G too crippled - B=trading nation) 4) extend British Emp 4) G and B to trade again

Did LLoyd- George get what he wanted?
Had to compromise about harshness towards Germany - was in a coalition with conservatives, who wanted to punish G. Achieved: G's navy reduced to 6 battleships and no submarines.

Yes, but LLoyd- George made him agree to a League of Nations to appease Wilson

"Diktat" peace, not repped at PPC, "stabbed in back" by "Nov Criminals" (agr to end fighting in 1918), serm determ & terr losses - G's living under foregin gov, B&F taking colonies to inc own power, seemed only G & allies made to disarm

Territorial changes for Germany (TOV)
Alsace Lorraine to France (iron - warcraft - weakened G).no air force. Rhineland demilitarised and taken away; F could invade G but G couldn't invade F. G not allowed to unite with Austria & gain power, G army 100,000 men & conscrip banned- not pop

International reactions to TOV (signed by 44 countries)
French thought Rhineland should've been made independent, USA didn't sign TOV or LON (WW not re-elected and new rep gov didn't want to get involved), B pols thought reps too high- damage world trade. Jap&Italy felt hadn't gained enough
