Pieces of hardware that are needed to turn stand-alone computers into networked computers.

Network Interface Card (NIC)
Prepares data for sending over the network. Sends the data. Controls the flow of data from the computer terminal to the transmission medium.

Data transfer media
Mani forms of data transfer media are: metal wires, fibre optic cable and wireless. It is the material through which data travels from one computer to another in a network.

Standards and procedures
Devices have to follow standards and procedures in order to communicate with one another. Without standards, one device could be sending data to another device in a form that the other device does not understand.
