pressure groups
organisations that try to influence political decisions but that do not aim to become the government

politically motivated activity undertaken by individuals, groups or governments to achieve political goals outside normal political channels, e.g. via blockades, boycotts, stunts and marches

new social movement (NSM)
a pressure group or movement that grows out a sense of moral outrage about an issue or related issues; often has a lack of formal organisation, an appeal to young people and a tendency to direct action and radical political gestures

informal volunteering
unpaid help (such as babysitting or providing advice) that someone gives to a person who is unrelated to them

formal volunteering
unpaid help that someone gives as part of an organisation or group to benefit other people or the environment, e.g. mentoring people, providing transport, running a scout group or improving open spaces
