Topic 3.4- Energy Transfers and Efficiency

?
What can be done with energy?
Energy can be transferred usefully, stored or dissipated
1 of 6
What cannot be done with energy?
Energy cannot be created nor destroyed
2 of 6
What happens when energy is transferred?
When energy is transferred only part of it may be usefully transferred, the rest is 'wasted'
3 of 6
What happens to wasted energy?
Wasted energy is eventually transferred to the surroundings, which become warmer. This energy becomes increasingly spread out and so it becomes less and less useful
4 of 6
How can the efficiency of a device be calculated?
Efficiency = Useful Energy Out ÷ Total Energy In (x 100)
5 of 6
What does a Sankey Diagram represent?
The energy flow in a system can be represented using a Sankey Diagram
