Describe the nucleus and its function.
A large organelle surrounded by a nuclear envelope (double membrane), which contains many pores and consists of nucleolus. It controls the cell activities, the pores controls what goes in and out of the cell the nucleolus makes ribosomes.
1 of 8
Describe the lysomes and its function.
A round organelle surrounded by a membrane. It contains digestive enzymes, these can be used to digest invading cells or to break down worn out cells.
2 of 8
Describe the ribosome and its function.
A very small organelle that is either free floating in the cytoplasm or attached to the rER. It's made up of proteins and RNA, it is not surrounded by a membrane. The site where proteins are made.
3 of 8
Describe the rough endoplasmic reticulum and its function.
A system of membranes enclosing fluid filled space. The surface is covered with ribosomes. It folds and processes proteins that have been made at the ribosomes.
4 of 8
Describe the smooth endoplasmic reticulum.
A system of membranes enclosing a fluid filled space. It synthesises and processes lipids.
5 of 8
Describe the golgi apparatus and its function.
A group of fluid filled membrane bound flattened sacs. Vesicles are often seen at the edges of the sacs. It processes and packages new lipids and proteins. It also makes lysosomes.
6 of 8
Describe the mitochondrion and its function.
They have a double membrane the inner one is folded to form structures called cristae. Inside is the matrix, which contains enzymes involved in respiration. The site of aerobic respiration, where ATP is produced.
7 of 8
Describe the centriole and its function.
Hollow cylinders made up of microtubules, involved with the separation of chromosomes.
