IR spectroscopy
IR radiation is passed through a sample and some frequencies are absorbed

Frequencies of IR radiation correlate to different bonds within a molecule

Stronger bonds have a higher frequency

Measure in cm-1
1 of 7
Mass spectroscopy
Atoms are ionised to form +1 cations

Ions are accelerated using an electromagnet to give them the same kinetic energy

Different masses travel at different velocities
(Heavier = slower)

The ions are detected and time of flight issued to calculate mass a
