1) Universal Neuro-Theories: Art is in Mind
Artists know how represent information and consciously omit things we dont need to process (Cavanagh,2005). Related to notion of sparse coding: recognition is driven by minimal info needed to discriminate objects.

Universal: Fluency Theory
Beauty is simplification of the world thus making its perception simple. We enjoy when easy to understand. Simple perception leads to pleasure. E.g. David Hockney: line drawings of the 70's, everyday people.

mind wandering as often experienced in depression. It's the opposite, transcendence when nothing to do with yourself.

Transcendence: Flow (1975)
Said that it's an intense feeling of focus, achievement and competence when engaged in activity. Seems to involve right brain activities to allow us to float away.

Transcendence: Maslow
Said it's like peak experience (1968) feelings of positive absorption.

Transcendence: Kahneman Peak End Effect
Peak feeling and feeling at the end are combined to create an evaluation of an event. Useful in advertisements, customer service. Want peak and end to both be positive.
