Germany at the end of the Great War (1918)
Sudden defeat & Revolution in November 1918 was a shock to the German people= stab in the back myth (Ebert & "November Criminals" accused of treason), EXTREMISM from communists & angry war veterans.

How did the Nazi part develop 1920-23?
Hitler was an angry war veteran, charismatic speaker/organiser. Joined the Nazi party in 1919 and was in charge by 1921. It was a small extremist party attractive to former soldiers. It had a 25 point programme.

They had anti-Semitic and anti-Communist views. The SA and stormtroopers fought communists. Hitler was jailed after the Munich Beer Hall Putsch in Nov 1923 when the Nazis tries to takeover Munich. The judges were sympathetic though(light sentence).
