This would affect a believers life because it means they will make an effort not to intentionally harm any living thing. This includes animals so many Buddhists are vegetarian.

This would affect a believers life as they will not be allowed to consume drugs or alcohol. Buddhists are allowed to take legal medication but would not take illegal drugs or alcohol as they think it clouds the mind and prevents them reaching nirvana

This would affect a believers life because they will not engage in sex with someone if they are not in a committed relationship as they believe that this can inflict pain on others.

The fourth Buddhist precept would affect a believers life because they will make an effort not to take anything that is not rightfully theirs. This includes time, ideas and dignity, as well as possessions.

They will be very aware of how they speak. They will make an effort not to lie, and also not to gossip about others. They believe that lying and gossiping causes hurt to others, which is wrong.

Reason Holy books are a good thing to live your life by
They contain teachings from the founders of the religion. E.g. Jesus or Muhammed. Their followers will always try to follow their example and Holy book show us these examples.

Holy books are the word of God. Following the Holy books is the only way you can be sure to do as God wants.

The Bible contains teachings from Jesus, who is the Son of God. E.g. The Sermon on the Mount. Also, The Bible is the word of God. So, if you follow its rules then, you know you are doing what God wants. E.g. "Do not kill".

The Bible could be difficult to understand for some people. E.g. "Do not covert your neighbour's belongings". Also, The Bible is out of date. E.g. It says "do not divorce" but isn't this an old-fashioned teaching?

What is the 'shahadah'?
The Muslim declaration of faith (There is no God but Allah and Muhammed is his messenger.).

Why is the shahadah important?
It reminds Muslims of the two most important beliefs of their religion in their everyday life.

The belief that all Muslims should pray five times a day.

Prayer is how Muslims develop their relationship with Allah as they communicate regularly with him through prayer.

The belief that during the month of Ramadan, Muslims must fast through the hours of daylight.

It is reminding Muslims what it is like to go without food. They are developing empathy with the less fortunate to help them to remember to do good works.

The belief that every Muslim should give 2.5% of their annual earnings to charity after the month of Ramadan.

Why is zakah important?
Muslims believe that all wealth really belongs to Allah, not them. Through zakah, they share out Allah's wealth equally to help those who are less fortunate than them.

What is 'hajj'?
The belief that, if you are physically and financially able to, you should make the pilgrimage to Mecca at least once in your lifetime.

Why is hajj important?
Muslims are visiting the birth-place of their religion. Hajj reminds them of the importance of their faith and makes them feel a part of the Muslim community as they all attend Hajj as equals.

The teach of Jesus that you must treat others as you want them to treat you.

Relationships between people would improve as there would be no bullying, prejudice, etc. People would show respect for eachother.

We need to be free to criticize people sometimes, even if we would not want it doing to us. E.g. A teacher criticizing a students work.

People may take advantage of this. Just because one person follows the Golden Rule, it doesn't mean that others are. E.g. In the case of terrorism.

It is a religious rule so, it is not applicable to everyone. It is not fair to ask non-religious people to follow a relgious rule.
