The Periodic Table 0.0 / 5 ? ChemistryThe Periodic TableGCSEEdexcel Created by: joshdCreated on: 30-03-14 09:27 What are the rows of the periodic table called? Periods 1 of 8 What are elements arranged in order of? (Example) In order of increasing atomic number along each row. E.g, the atomic numbers of the Period 2 elements increase from 3 for Li to 10 for Ne. 2 of 8 What is the period number the same as? (Example) The period number is the same as the number of electron shells. E.g, the Period 3 elements have 3 electron shells. 3 of 8 What happens to the properties of elements as you go along a period? They change (sometimes quite dramatically). 4 of 8 What are the columns of the periodic table called? Groups 5 of 8 What do elements in the same group have and why? Similar properties, as they have the same number of electrons in their outer shell. 6 of 8 What is the group number always equal to? (Example) The number of electrons in the outer shell. E.g, the Group 2 elements all have two electrons in their outer shell. 7 of 8 What do the properties of elements (such as reactivity) often do? They often gradually change as you go down a group (as the atomic number increases) 8 of 8
