The Nervous system 2

Quick flashcards

?
What does your Nervous system allow you to do?
Your nervous system helps you to react to the world around you and coordinate your behaviour
1 of 20
What receptor detects you touching a hot oven?
Your Skin receptor
2 of 20
What receptor detects a loud noise?
Your ear receptors
3 of 20
What receptor detects a strong perfume?
Your Nose receptor
4 of 20
What are sense Organs?
Sense Organs are clusters of Cell receptors E.g Eyes, Ears etc
5 of 20
Are receptor cells more like Plant or Animal cells?
Animal Cells- They have a nucleus, cytoplasm and Cell membrane
6 of 20
Why do we need our Nervous Systems?
Because they help us avoid danger and be able to detect changes in the world around us
7 of 20
What are effector organs?
Effector Organs are Muscles or Glands
8 of 20
How do glands respond to impulses?
Glands Respond to Impulses by secreting
9 of 20
How do muscles respond to impulses?
Muscles respond to impulses by contracting
10 of 20
How does the Information get from the receptor to the CNS?
Once the receptor detects a stimulus the information (electrical impulse passes along special cells called neurons these are usually in groups of hundreds called nerves until it reaches the CNS (the cells which carry them here are sensory nuerons)
11 of 20
What is the CNS?
The CNS is your brain and spinal cord
12 of 20
Which part of the nervous system is not involved in producing reflex actions?
The Brain
13 of 20
What is a Reflex Action?
A reflex action is a response which happens A lot faster than a normal response
14 of 20
Give two examples of effectors
a muscle contracting and a gland releasing (secreting) a hormone or other chemical.
15 of 20
What's the Simple order in a Reflex Action of how the information gets from the stimulus to the effector
stimulus → receptor → sensory neurone → relay neurone → motor neurone → effector
16 of 20
What is an Effector?
An effector is any part of the body that produces the response.
17 of 20
What's the order of a reflex action from a change in the environment to your response?
receptor detects a stimulus - a change in the environment sensory neurone sends impulses to relay neurone motor neurone sends impulses to effector, effector produces a response.
18 of 20
What is an eye receptor sensitive to?
Light
19 of 20
What is an ear receptor sensitive to?
Sound and balance
