What did the NEP do?
Ended grain requisitioning (instead the peasants only had to give part of their produce to the government, the rest they could sell but the had to pay a tax. Private trading was allowed to boost the availdability of good, new currency introduced.

Created a new class called the Nepman (private traders)

That it was a betrayal of their ideas

Factions and all other political parties as he knew that the NEP was going to be unpopular and may have caused splits

What did the NEP do?
Loosened economic controls but tightened political control

What was the positive impact of the NEP?
It had an almost immediate effect, markets returned, food shortages were stopped and the famine came to an end. Coal and textile production doubled and livestock numbers increased.

What was the negative impacts of the NEP?
Caused the scissor crisis where as agricultural produce rose, prices dropped and industrial prices rose. This lead to unemployment. It also caused a divide amongst the communist party.
