Stage 1
Water evaporates from the sea and land. Transpiration is the evaporation of water from plants. Evapotranspiration happens too.

Stage 2
Water vapour is moved inland by winds.

Stage 3
The water vapour condenses to form clouds and then falls over the land as precipitation.
3 of 6
Stage 4
Water moves from one place to another in many ways, called flows/transfers. Examples include infiltration, percolation, throughflow and surface runoff.

Stage 5
Water can be held on the land in stores. Examples include groundwater storage, surface storage and channel storage.

Stage 6
The water eventually ends up in the sea, where it evaporates and goes round the cycle again.
