Direct reinforcement (operant conditioning) and Indirect reinforcement (classical conditioning)

What are the three main points in direct reinforcement?
Rewarding stimuli which trigger positive feelings, people are likely to repeat behaviour that leads to a desirable outcome and we enter into relationships because there is a presence of direct reinforcement from an individual, more attractive to us

What are the three main points in Association (indirect reinforcement) ?
We like people who are associated with pleasant events, if we meet someone when in a good mood we're more inclined to like them and relationships where positive feelings outweigh the negative are more likely to succeed and develop

List a strength of the Reward/need model?
Griffitt and Guay (1969) conducted a study. An experimenter evaluated pp's creative task they were set, teh pp's then had to rate how much they liked the exp. They found the rating was highest when exp. positively evaluated pp's performance on task

Give a weakness of the reward/ need satisfaction model?
It doesn't account for cultural or gender differences. Lott (1994) found that in many cultures woman were more focused on needs of others rather than receiving reinforcement. Non western cultures also found to not be dependent on reinforcement.

What are the two main points within the Matching hypothesis?
We are attracted to ppl of similar social desirability eg. physical attractiveness, intelligence or social standing. As well as, couples who are matched are more likely to have happy enduring relationships than couples who're mismatched.
