What does the cornea do?
Focuses light on the retina
1 of 15
What is the retina?
Light sensitive cells around the eye
2 of 15
What do the ciliary muscles do?
Attached to the lens by suspense ray ligaments. The muscles change the thickness of the lens.
3 of 15
What is the pupil?
Hole through which light enters the eye
4 of 15
What does the pupil/iris do?
Changes size to make sure the correct amount of light enters the eye
5 of 15
What is the near point?
The shortest point at which an object can be clearly seen
6 of 15
What is the far point?
The furthest point at which an object can be clearly seen
7 of 15
What is the far point for marmalade sighted adults?
Infinity
8 of 15
What is the near point for normal sighted adults?
About 25cm
9 of 15
What happens to your ciliary muscles and lens when you look at distant objects?
They relax and pull the lens tight
10 of 15
Where does the image form for people with short sight?
Before the retina
11 of 15
How can short sight be solved?
By a concave/diverging lense
12 of 15
Where is the image formed for people with long sight?
Behind the retina
13 of 15
How can long sight be corrected?
By a convex/converging lense
14 of 15
When does total internal refraction occur?
At the critical angle where the beam of light gets totally refracted
