What is 'Continental Drift' and who's theory was this?
Continental Drift is the theory that all land started off as one super continent and due to convection currents in the Earth's mantle, the Earth's tectonic plates have moved, moving the continents as well- Wegener
1 of 6
The theory of 'Continental Drift' was not accepted for many years, why has it been accepted more recently?
There has been studies and scientists have started to find evidence to prove this theory- for example how the continents can fit together and the rocks and fossils found on most continents are the same or similar
2 of 6
What does the Earth consist of?
A core, mantle and crust surrounded by an atmosphere
3 of 6
What are tectonic plates?
They are where the Earth's crust and upper part of the Earth's mantle have been cracked into a number of large pieces
4 of 6
How do convection currents in the Earth's mantle occur?
Although the Earth's mantle is mostly solid, convection currents occur due to heat released by natural radioactive processes
5 of 6
What can the movements of tectonic plates and plate boundaries create?
Earthquakes and volcanoes
