WHO WAS FIDEL CASTRO?
Fidel Castro was the leader of Cuba during the Cold War. He was a dictator, but Cuba was a dictatorship through choice.

WHO WAS NATO AND WHAT DID THEY DO?
NATO was the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation who were a group of countries (such as the UK, US, Turkey, Spain, Sardinia, France, Denmark, Iceland, Italy, Norway) who came together to make decisions.

WHAT WAS THE WARSAW PACT?
The Warsaw Pact was the eastern European version of NATO. It consisted of Albania, Bulgaria, Czechoslovakia, East Germany, Hungary, Poland, Romania, and the Soviet Union, who met in Warsaw (capital of Poland).

WHAT WAS THE YALTA CONFERENCE?
Yalta - February 1945: Germany was not yet defeated, so, although there were tensions about Poland, the big three - Stalin, Roosevelt and Churchill - managed to agree to split Germany into four zones of occupation, and to allow free elections.

WHAT WAS THE POTSDAM CONFERENCE?
Potsdam - July 1945: Germany had been defeated, Roosevelt had died and Churchill had lost the 1945 election - so there were open disagreements. Truman was angry about the size of reparation. Truman did not tell Stalin that he had an atomic bomb.
