Atrioventricular Valves
Link the atria to the ventricles. They stop blood flowing back into the atria when the ventricles contract.
1 of 14
Semi-lunar Valves
Link the ventricles to the pulmonary artery and aorta. They stop blood flowing back into the heart after the ventricles contract
2 of 14
Cords
Attatch the atrioventricular valves to the ventricles to stop them being forced up into the atria when the ventricles contract.
3 of 14
Myogenic
Able to contract and relax without recieving signals nerves.
4 of 14
Sino-atrial node
It sets the rhythm of the heartbeat by sending out regular waves of electrical activity to the atrial walls.
5 of 14
Atrioventricular node
Is responsible for passing the waves of electrical activity, from the SAN, on to the bundle of His.
6 of 14
Bunde of His
A group of muscle fibres responsible for conducting the waves of electrical activity to the finer muscle fibres in the walls of the ventricles.
7 of 14
Purkyne Fibres
Fine muscle fibres in the ventricl walls. They carry the waves of electrical activity into the muscular walls of the right and left ventricle causing them to contract simultaneously from the bottom up.
8 of 14
Cardiac Output
The volume of blood pumped by the heart per minute.
9 of 14
Stroke Volume
The volume of blood pumped during each heartbeat, measured in cm3.
10 of 14
Heart Rate
The number of heartbeats per minute.
11 of 14
Atheroma
Fatty deposits in the lumen that narrow the artery and restrict blood flow.
12 of 14
Aneurysm
A balloon like swelling of the artery.
13 of 14
Thrombosis
Formation of a blood clot.
