The Circulatory System

?
What is the function of an artery?
Arteries carry oxygenated blood away from the heart.
1 of 12
What is the exception to this?
The pulmonary artery takes deoxygenated blood away from the heart to the lungs.
2 of 12
What is the function of a vein?
Veins carry deoxygenated blood to the heart.
3 of 12
What is the exception to this?
The pulmonary vein carries oxygenated blood from the lungs to heart.
4 of 12
What is the function of the inferior vena cava?
The inferior vena cava VEIN brings deoxygenated blood from the lower half of the body and deposits it into the right atrium.
5 of 12
What is the function of the superior vena cava?
The superior vena cava VEIN carries deoxygenated blood from the head and upper body and also deposits it into the right atrium.
6 of 12
What is the job of the right atrium?
The right atrium pumps the deoxygenated blood that it receives from the vena cava veins into the right ventricle, the chamber beneath it.
7 of 12
What is the job of the right ventricle?
The right ventricle pumps the deoxygenated blood it recieves from the right atrium through the pulmonary vein which then goes to the lungs.
8 of 12
What is the aorta and what does it do?
It is the largest artery in the body and starts at the top of the left ventricle. It carries and distributes oxygenated blood around the body from the left ventricle.
9 of 12
What is the job of the left ventricle?
The left ventricle is the thickest chamber as it pumps oxygenated blood at a high pressure to tissues all over the body through the aorta.
10 of 12
What is the function of the left atrium?
The left atrium receives oxygenated blood from the pulmonary veins that come from the lungs, and pumps this blood into the left ventricle beneath it.
11 of 12
Why is the septum so important?
The septum runs through the middle of the heart and separates the right and left ventricles which stops the deoxygenated blood becoming mixed with the oxygenated blood.
