Criticisms of Augustinian Theodicy
Eexistence of Heaven. Is god justified in punishment of human due to the sin of another. Evil exists in perfect world is contradiction suggests evil is creatio ex nihlio. Amount of suffering in the world justified. Misinterpretation of the fall
5 of 11
Irenaen Theodicy
Evil is a consequence of free will but is needed for soul-making and becoming a 'child of god'. We need free will and the choice of good and evil to be able to williling cooperate with god. Natural evil has the divine purpose of creating compassion

Criticisms
Is amount of suffering justified. Relies on Heaven.

Expansion of Irenaen Theodicy
John Hick- If God made us perfect would love automatically, God wants us to have genuine love therefore free will. If God became too close would interrupt free will.

Summary
Irenaues offers better justification than Augustine as contradicts himself ( suggests evil is creatio ex nihlio) and misinterprets the fall as evil was already present just not known. Irenaues justifies Gods creation of evil.

Summary 2
However although stronger irenaeus (and Hick) still do not override the problem of evil as can such suffering (the holocaust) ever be justified.

Explain the inconsistent Triad
If God is omnipotent he knows of evil in the world and how to prevent it. If God is omnibenevolent then he would want to stop it. Yet evil still exists
