5 of 18
What is chronic stress?
long term stress

name the stages of HPAC
hypothalamus is activated by stressor, this controls the pituitary gland which releases ACTH which enters the blood stream and passes through the adrenal cortex which produces cortisol.
7 of 18
What hormone is released by the adrenal cortex in the HPAC system
corticosteroids / cortisol
8 of 18
What does effect does cortisol have on the body?
quick bursts of energy, high blood pressure, lowered immune response
9 of 18
What is the ACTH?

What is HANSAM?
Hypothalamic-automnic nervous system- adrenal medulla pathway
11 of 18
What is HANSAM a response to?
short term stressors
12 of 18
What is the process of HANSAM?
hypothalamus is activated, signals brainstem to go to Automnic nervous system, signals travel via nerves to adrenal medulla and releases adrenaline and noradrenaline.
