A comedy show that depicts the everyday lives of 4 hapless geeks and their more 'normal' next door neighbour.

Why E4? Ethos?
Fits well with channels ethos; 'to be joyously daft and beautifully random'. Characters are eccentric science geeks who often get into random situations. Example when Sheldon takes his lecture to the parking lot so Howard can't take his parking spot.

Why E4? Target Audience?
E4 is a niche audience targets people ages between 16-34. Main characters fit within this age bracket so our relatable. People experience the same issues; relationship, fitting in and job problems.

Why Thursday?
It is the pre-weekend. The same night as other American comedies such as; How I Met Your Mother and Rules of Engagement. These have the same target audience as The Big Bang Theory. It is also apart of E4's comedy night 'Quite Big Thursdays'.

Why 8pm?
Its pre-watershed time for free to air television in Britain. The Big Bang Theory does have some innuendo and adult content. Also a good time because How I Met Your Mother is on before and it inherits the audience.

Identifying with characters and themes. The Big Bang Theory is relatable as they are the same age groups and suffer similar issues.
Series 6 Episode 2 - Penny and Leonard are having issues as they can't relate to each others lives and Penny can't relate to Leonards job. Series 6 Episode 8 Amy and Sheldon fall out because he doesn't support or back her.

Consumption of the familiar. Audiences feel 'comfortable' dropping in and meeting the same 7 characters regularly.
We come to love the characters quirks such as Sheldon's awkwardness in social situations. For example his need to knock three times on Penny's door shouting 'Penny'.

Shadenfreude. The audience take pleasure seeing the characters in embarrassing
Series 6 Episode 5 - Sheldon gets drunk on iced tea and throws up in Will Eaton's front garden. Series 6 Episode 7 - Sheldon loses a game agaisnt Stephen Hawkins then says 'WHat do the black hole and Sheldon Cooper have in common? They both ****!'

Narrative disruption and resolution. The audience take pleasure from the chaos and enigma caused by the disruption.
Series 6 Episode 9 - Sheldon and Howard fall out over a parking space. Series 6 Episode 7 - Sheldon and Amy fall out over him not taking her side.
