Causes

The army and Social Democrats agreed to form government to keep out the most extreme left (Communists)
Spartacists had Russian support for an uprising.
the army were disintegrated and therefore, the Weimar government would find it difficult to suppress

The Freikorps are formed (right wing).
January 1919 - Spartacists organise anti-government demonstrations.
they seized gov buildings and declared a Communist takeover.
Attempted to bring about a general strike.
The gov send in the Friekorp to crush.

Outcome

The Spartacists were crushed by the Freikorps.
Liebknecht and Luxemburg were beaten to death.
