What was the cause of the revolt?
They aimed to overthrow the provisional government and form a soviet republic.

What happened?
They occupied public buildings, called for a general strike, formed a revolutionary committee and there was 3 days of savage street fighting.

Why was Ebert able to defeat them?
They were strong but had no real strategy, and were detached from political realities. Therefore, he could use the Friekorps to put down the revolts.

What impact did the failed revolt have?
It created a troubled atmosphere, and although elections still took place, the first meeting was held in Weimar.

What was the Ebert-Groener agreement?
The agreement that the army would put down left-wing revolts.

What was the Stinnes-Legien agreement?
Trade unions made a committment to not interfere with private ownership and the free market, in return for workers' committees, an 8-hour working day and full legal recognition

Why would the left have been angered by the two agreements?
The army had not been reformed and so were quite conservative still - seen as a compromise to conservatism.
