A person's view of their actual self (what they think they are like)

The person an individual would like to be

Self-esteem
Gap between self-concept and ideal self. A measure of how much we value ourselves

Unconditional Positive Regard
Showing an individual love without expecting anything in return. Raises a peron's self-esteem

Self-actualisation
Idea that each of us has an inborn drive to fulfil our otential. Not everyone reaches this stage

Criticism
Ignores genetic evidence - 20 to 60 percent of a person's intellectual, emotional and social development comes from genetic factors

Not very scientific - ideas are difficult to test and measure if we cannot observe them. Also alot of evidence came from Roger's own research which was not very representative
