What kind of party was the DAP?
It was a small right wing, extremist nationalist party which was established in Bavaria following the defeat and humiliation of Germany in 1918/19. They were also committed to anti-Semitism and anti-capitalism.

Following the end of the war Hitler was employed as a kind of spy by the political department of the Army's Bavarian section, which brought him into contact with the DAP. Hitler joined the tiny party and soon became one of its most committed activist

February 1920. They also changed the party's name to the NSDAP, the National Socialist German Workers Party.

Five years imprisonment (which was reduced to 10 months) at Landsberg Castle because of the failed Munich Putsch in 1923.
