- william harvey, 1578, London was a royal physician
-atudied animals and humans
-before harvey, people thought there were two kinds of blood and two completely seperate symptoms
-he relaised this was wrong and thought blood must circulate round the body

-when blood transfusions were attempted they were highly dangerous and m,any died due to blood loss and shock and because wrong blood type were used
-bloodletting was comtinued even thougb harvey proved it was wrong

- 1470s, first british press
-accelerated rate of progress: books would take forver to write and copy
new ideas would have to be accepted before anyone would want it to hand
so invention allowed copy of books to be easier
