Stalin Creates first 5 year plan involving a great deal of suffering. Wanted to bring industry forward.

Collectivisation where Peasants have to work together on farms.

1932 (Ryutin)
Publishes a book (Ryutin platform) and therefore Stalin calls for his execution. Publication potentially shows Stalin is weak.

1932-34 (Party)
Major party purge 22% for those who opposed rapid industrialisation

1934 (Kirov)
17th Party Congress. Where talks of slowing industrialisation and he is made secretary of equal rank with Stalin. In December Kirov is shot.

Big ideological threat to the U.S.S.R as there are external threats such as USA.

Re newed Party Purge.
