What was the aim of the study?
To investigate prison-guard conflict in a simulated prison environment

22 males

What were the participants told before the experiment happened?
That whilst they would receive basic necessities, if they were allocated the role of the prisoner, they may lose some basic civil rights.

How were the participants allocated the roles?
They were randomly allocated into two roles, ten being given the role of prisoners, and eleven prison guards.

Why was the experiment terminated after only six days?
This was due increased anxiety being presented by the prisoner

What is one strength of the study?
Each participant was fully debriefed and given psychological evaluations after the study to ensure their well-being.

What is one weakness?
Prisoners were subjected to physical and [psychological harm at the hands of the guards. This led to participants leaving the study due to emotional distress.
