Why do plants need nitrogen?
plants contain nitrogen compounds in proteins and DNA to grow well plants need to make more of these compounds.

Plant root absorb nitrates by Active transport to create amino acid

Nitrogen becomes part of the animal protein

What do decomposers do to dead plant and animals?
Decomposers convert dead plant and animal material to amonia

What is the use of nitrifying bacteria?
Nitrifying bacteria converts ammonia into nitrites and then into nitrates which will be returned to the soil.

Where are Nitrogen-fixing bacteria found?
These bacteria are protected inside nodules in the plant roots.

What do Nitrogen fixing bacteria do?
They convert un-reactive nitrogen gas into nitrates

Why is the relationship between nitrogen fixing bacteria and pea plant described as mutualistic?
The plants gain nitrates from the bacteria, and the bacteria gain sugars from the plants.

What is crop rotation?
Crop rotation is the practice of growing series different types of crops in the same area in sequenced seasons

Why is crop rotation useful?
By choosing to plant legumes every four years it will help add a huge injection of nitrates to the soil and help all plants that grow afterwards grow better
