The Nervous system and endocrine system

?
What are the two main functions of the Nervous system?
- Collect, process and respond to information in the environment.
- Co-ordinate the working of different organs and cells in the body
1 of 8
What happens in the Endocrine system?
Glands in the body produce hormones that are secreted into the bloodstream and affect any cell in the body that has a receptor for the particular hormone. E.g: Thyroid gland produces thyroxine.
- Major endocrine gland is the Pituitary. This controls the

What are the four neurotransmitters?
-Dopamine
-Serotonin
- GABA
-Glutamate
3 of 8
What is the role of Dopamine?
Main focus neurotransmitter.
Regulates the rewards/pleasure circuits, memory and motor control. Dependent on the receptor it binds to, its effects can either be excitatory or inhibitory.

What are the three types of neurons?
1.Sensory Neuron
2. Interneuron
3. Motor Neuron

What is the role of serotonin?
The neurotransmitter involved in the regulation of anxiety, happiness and mood. It's effects are inhibitory.
6 of 8
What is the role of Gamma aminobutyric acid (GABA)?
Acts as a neurotransmitter in the central nervous system reducing the activity of neurons to which it binds and therefore its effects are inhibitory

What is the role of Glutamate?
The neurotransmitter responsible for sending signals between nerve cells and under the correct conditions also plays a vital role in learning and memory. Its effects are excitatory.
