The neck Anatomy 3

?
What are the two layers of the skin and talk about their characteristics.
epidermis (epithelium) - inert/waterproof/non-vascular dermis (dense connective tissue) vascular/lymphatics/innervated/strengthens & nourishes the epithelium

What are the two layers of the fascia and talk about their characteristics.
superficial fascia (subcutaneous tissue) distributes vessels & nerves/allows skin mobility/insulation (thermal & mechanical) deep fascia separates superficial from deep structures/strong & protective
2 of 21
Where is the superficial fascia? what does it contain?
lies between the skin and the deep neck fascia. Contains: Sensory nerves (C2,C3 and C4) Platysma muscles Blood vessels - superficial veins (Lymphatic vessels and superficial lymph nodes)

Which are the sensory nerves in the superficial fascia?
great auricular nerve(C2,3) transverse cervical nerve(C2,3) lesser occipital nerve(C2) supraclavicular nerves(C3,4)
4 of 21
What is the nerve point of the neck?
where the cervical plexus nerves go deep, posterior to the middle of sternocleidomastoid muscle’s posterior border

13 of 21
Where is the cranial nerve 9 in the neck?
deep to the investing layer (and to both muscles)- trapezius and sternocleidomastoid
14 of 21
The sensory nerves of the right cervical plexus- where are they?
begin superficial to investing layer & sternocleidomastoid)
15 of 21
What does the pretracheal layer contain? what organs and muscle parts?
Encloses the thyroid gland, trachea oesophagus and strap muscles
16 of 21
What does the pre vertebral layer enclose?
postural muscles & the cervical vertebrae
17 of 21
what major messes and nerves are contained in the prevertebral layer of deep cervical fascia?
the internal jugular veins the carotid arteries the vagus nerves (cranial nerves X) the deep cervical chain of lymph nodes & lymphatics
18 of 21
The prevertebral layer connects the superior mediastinum to ....?
the jugular foraminae and carotid canals
